(RTTNews) - Crude oil prices surged past $78 per barrel on Tuesday in U.S. trading and got within 20 cents of the record high. Light sweet crude oil for September delivery was at $78.13, up $1.30 on the session. It got as high as $78.20 in mid-day trading. This is a yearly high.
Oil touched $78.40 in July of 2006. Crude is surging as investors feel the demand will outweigh the supply for the winter months. Traders are looking ahead to Wednesday's inventory report.
